PPP plans functions in many countries

LAHORE, Feb 9: The PPP Overseas Committee, which met under the chairmanship of Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan here on Monday, decided to hold seminars and conferences in various countries to pay tributes and highlight the services , teachings and philosophy of the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his death anniversary on April 4.

Together with Information Secretary Naveed Chaudhry, Rana Aftab told reporters after the meeting that the party would also have its organizations in important countries. New membership drive would be launched there and then elections would be held to choose office-bearers for overseas' organizations.

The meeting also decided to take its struggle against dictatorship to other countries. Responding to a question, he ignored the merger of the PPP-Patriots and the PPP (Sherpao group), saying it was like adding zero to zero. The real PPP, he said, was the one led by Ms Benazir Bhutto.

He told a questioner that the ARD didn't have any organizational setup abroad and, thus, nobody could claim to be the president of the alliance's overseas' organization.

Mr Matloob Warraich had been using this title for quite some time. Rana Aftab said contrary to his claims, Mr Matloob was also not Ms Bhutto's special envoy.

Meanwhile, an important meeting of leaders of various PPP tiers is scheduled to be held at the residence of Mr Khalid Kharal today (Tuesday). Party's acting Punjab president Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will preside.
