QUETTA, Feb 6: A Balochistan High Court division bench on Friday handed over a seven-year-old girl, who was married to a 40-year-old man on the order of a jirga, to her mother.

The station house officer of the Nushki police station produced Aziza Bibi before the court on the orders of the bench, comprising Chief Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani.

After handing over the girl to her mother, the court ordered the SHO to register an FIR against the members of the jirga and Pir Mohammad, with whom her marriage had been ordered. The bench ordered the SHO to present a copy of the FIR on Feb 9.

The jirga while deciding a feud between two tribes had decided that the girl would be married to the man. She was forcibly married to him. The chief justice had taken notice of press reports about the incident and ordered the police to produce the girl in the court.
