HYDERABAD, Feb 6: Latifabad Taluka Council Workers Union has said that those taluka council members, who have objected to promotions of the local bodies employees, are ignorant of rules and regulations.
In a joint statement issued here on Friday, the president of the union, Qamoos Gul Khattak, and other office-bearers claimed that it was for the first time that the promotions were given in a transparent and impartial manner.
They said that the taluka council members should first take stock of their own powers under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance to know that the promotions of the employees had to be finalised by the CBA union and the taluka administration. The union leaders claimed that the approval of the taluka council in such matters was not at all necessary.
They further said that council members could not usurp the powers of the union and regretted that some members had misused the forum of the taluka council. They added that the union would not tolerate any interference into its own domain.
They pointed out that the seniority list of the employees was prepared much before the meeting of the departmental promotion committee and it was displayed for inviting objections. They added that some employees had filed objections which were heard and decided.
They said that even written tests were conducted for some posts and promotions were given on the basis of seniority and ability. They said that some union council Naib Nazims had pleaded for the promotion of union council secretaries who under the law did not fall within the clerical cadre.
