NEW YORK, Jan 27: At least 38 deaths are blamed on mid-winter storm which spread from Midwest to Northeast coast, and more storm are predicted for next two days.

Most deaths were due to traffic accidents on slippery roads. The reports said that the storms have been pummelling states in the eastern half of the nation with snow, sleet and freezing rain since Sunday. Michigan was expecting up to 21 inches of snow Tuesday; highways were glazed over as far south as Georgia.

Washington DC received snow for the first time in weeks with almost a foot of white stuff and authorities in Michigan warned motorists to stay off roads on Tuesday.
