SHIKARPUR, Jan 26: The adviser to the prime minister on social welfare and women development, Nelofar Bakhtiar, has said a bill to eliminate Karo-kari will soon be presented before the federal cabinet after which legislation will be made against the custom in parliament.

She was speaking at an open kutchehry in Lakhi Ghulam Shah here on Monday. Federal Railways Minister Ghaus Bakhsh Mahar was also present on the occasion. Ms Bakhtiar said all segments of the society should launch a joint struggle against such practices.

She stressed the need for taking practical steps to eliminate evil traditions and said social workers and organizations should help the government in this regard.

The adviser praised President Gen Pervez Musharraf for giving women 33 per cent representation in local bodies and 17 per cent seats' quota in parliament. She said 10 shelter homes would soon be established for women prisoners in Sindh. She said jail authorities had been directed to keep women prisoners in women's jails, adding that violators would be taken to task.-APP
