KARACHI, Jan 23: Adviser to Sindh chief minister on local bodies, Waseem Akhtar, has said that no corruption and negligence in the local government organizations will be tolerated.

"Besides Nazims and councillors, the officers should also play their full role in solving the basic problems of the people", he said during a visit to Shah Faisal Town on Thursday.

The advisor assured the people present on the occasion that the government would prudently utilise its resources for better cleanliness, road carpeting, improvement of parks, water supply and sewerage, schools and hospitals besides installation of street lights.

He said the funds provided for development would be used in public interest so that maximum benefits could accrue to people and they may live a comfortable life.

"We have always believed in the service to people and spared no effort in this regard despite the fact we did not participate in local bodies elections".He assured the Town Nazim and UC Nazims that purpose of his visit was to personally see the problems here and get them solved.

Earlier, Town Nazim Mushtaq Ahmed in a briefing to the advisor informed that the cantonment board had excluded seven settlements in Shah Faisal Town from their jurisdiction and the local government department had annexed them into the town limits. However, the water board was reluctant to take over these areas.

He complained about demolitions were being carried out by the KBCA without prior information as a result of which law and order problems were being created.

The Town's UC Nazims demanded the construction of a stadium on an eight acre playground land in Shah Faisal Town. The advisor expressed concern over shortage of teachers, doctors and necessary staff in schools, hospitals and maternity homes and assured provision of staff soon.

Waseem Akhtar informed that a proposal was under consideration for the establishment of a Hawkers Zone in the town. This would help the town to generate revenue and also help the poor people to earn their livelihood. He said that the KBCA funds were being pumped into district government. He asked the Nazims to make efforts to get a share out of the same.-APP
