GUJRANWALA, Jan 22: The City Tehsil Council on Thursday launched a grand operation against the landgrabbers and bulldozed around a dozen shops in various parts of the city.
As per reports, City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad received information that some landgrabbers occupied the state land in different areas and constructed shops on them. He visited the areas himself and directed the city tehsil council anti-encroachment squad to bulldoze all the illegal shops.
Complying with the Nazim's orders, the anti-encroachment squad razed shops in Thanewala Bazaar, Garjakh Gate, Naushera Road, Circular Road, Dal Bazaar and Chowk Dalgran. The squad also bulldozed all projections and platforms built unlawfully by shopkeepers in front of their shops. The City Nazim warned that landgrabbers would be taken to task if they were found involved in illegal construction for commercial and residential purposes.
AMENDMENTS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, issued amended schedule for the submission of admission forms for the intermediate part-I and part-II annual examinations here on Thursday.
According to the amended schedule, the last date for submitting admission forms for private candidates has been extended to Jan 29. The last date for submitting admission forms by regular candidates has already been fixed on Jan 29.
However, there will be no change in the last date for submitting admission forms with double or triple fee for private and regular candidates. This was stated by board chairman Dr Muhammad Aslam Ghauri in a press release issued here on Thursday.
ROBBERY BID: The National Highway and Motorway Police foiled a robbery bid at Gepco's construction office early on Thursday morning. It said five outlaws entered the office situated at Kolti Peer Ahmad Shah near Alipur bypass. They overpowered and tied the watchman and four other employees with ropes and snatched their belongings. They loaded wire and other equipment on the official vehicle (GAM-9910) ad drove away with it.
When they reached near Kamoke, a police patrol signalled them to stop. The driver stopped it after covering a little distance. When the patrol team reached near the vehicle, no-one was there. They radioed a massage and learnt that the vehicle was stolen from the Gepco office about an hour ago.
COMMITS SUICIDE: A teenaged girl committed suicide by taking poisonous pills over some domestic issue in Pondawala Chowk here on Thursday. The parents of Uzma admonished her after which she swallowed pills. She died on way to the local DHQ Hospital.
