HYDERABAD, Jan 21: The Jamaat-i-Islami held a protest demonstration outside the local press club on Wednesday against increase in prices of flour and petrol and lawlessness.

Speaking on the occasion, Hyderabad JI and district MMA chief Abdul Waheed Qureshi said that the price hike was due to the implementation of the World Bank and IMF-backed policies by the army which had become a political party.

He said that the people were groaning under the weight of price hike and lawlessness had become the order of the day. Shaikh Shoukat Ali alleged that the corrupt food officials had misappropriated thousands of bags of wheat lying in the government godowns while the poor people were starving.

Sindh National Labour Federation chief Rana Mehmood Ali Khan said that it was for the first time in the history of the country that a government had increased the prices of petrol on eight occasions and reduced it only on one occasion.

NAZIM: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has said several development schemes have been launched in the city following the introduction of the new local government system.

He said this while inaugurating the Guru Nagar Meat Markethere on Tuesday. He hailed the City Nazim for his efforts to rehabilitate dilapidated meat markets of the city.

The district Nazim said the market would not only generate huge funds for the City Taluka Council but residents would also be able to get quality and clean meat. He said the sale of unhygienic meat would also be brought to an end.
