THATTA, Jan 19: The National Commission for Human Development has achieved enrollment of 17,000 boy and girl students and establishment of 88 more schools in the district.

This was stated by the minister for state and the NCHD chairman, Dr Naseem Ashraf, at Ahmed Zaur village on Sunday. He said district Nazim Shafqat Hussain Shirazi and the education department officials, 1,123 union council coordinators and volunteers made this achievement possible in six months.

He said they had entrusted enrollment of more 45,000 children in primary schools and by the time Dec 2004 there would be left no single child to be admitted to primary schools.

The United Nations Development Programme secretary general Dr Hafeez Pasha said he was satisfied with the performance of the NCHD in 16 districts. Mr Pasha said the UNDP would continue its support to make the devolution plan a success. He said HANDS, Thardeep and many other NGOs were well performing but sincere participation of local communities was a vital factor.

District Nazim Shafqat Shirazi said the federal government was doing well in promoting human development but priority in employment must be given to locals.
