KARACHI, Jan 18: Shahid Aziz, who died in a clash between two student groups on Saturday, was laid to rest at a local graveyard in Naval Colony, Hub River Road, on Sunday.
A large number of fellow students and friends of the deceased attended the funeral. The prayers were led by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan. Shahid Aziz was a student of the Government Commerce and Economics College. He had suffered a bullet wound and died shortly after at the JPMC as a result of a clash between two student groups near the college on Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road.
Police said two groups - Pakhtoon Students Federation (PSF) and Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) - clashed near the PIDC bridge on Saturday. One group apparently fired at the opponents and Shahid suffered a bullet in his head. Following the incident police picked up several students. Late on Saturday night, an FIR 4/2004 was lodged at the Artillery Maidan police station in which four persons were nominated.
IJT'S ULTIMATUM: The IJT has asked the provincial administration to arrest "all those behind the killing" of its activist Shahid Aziz within the next 72 hours, saying otherwise widespread protests will be held in the city, adds PPI
Talking to newsmen after the burial of Shahid Aziz, IJT Karachi Nazim Monim Zafar said a black day would be observed on Monday at educational institutions to condemn the incident.-PPI
