KARACHI, Jan 15: Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Rahila Tiwana has assured the inmates and the staff of the Special Prison for Women that she will help provide additional facilities to them.

Speaking to the inmates and the staff on Thursday during a visit to the prison, she said that the government had given Rs5 million to her and she would like to spend a major chunk of that amount for the upliftment of the jail.

Earlier, jail superintendent Sheeba Shah told the deputy speaker that at least three small cells for four prisoners each were required, and the other requirements included conversion of a dispensary room into a 10-bed hospital, replacement of the roof of the dispensary, construction of family quarters for the jail staff, two vehicles and recruitment of at least two nurses and two vocational training teachers.

The superintendent also informed the deputy speaker that there were approximately 20 women inmates who had been granted bail by the courts, but since they were unable to pay the bail amount ranging between Rs10,000 and Rs200,000 they were still in prison.
