HYDERABAD, Jan 15: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of development work being carried out by the Hyderabad Development Authority in the district.

Presiding over a meeting to review ongoing uplift schemes of 2003-04 at the committee room of the district Nazim secretariat on Wednesday, he said if any amount of the schemes lapsed, the authority concerned would be held responsible.

The Nazim said Rs183.520 million was saved from non-development fund of the district government in addition to Rs11.878 million from the district council fund for 2002-2003 to undertake new development schemes and complete ongoing uplift schemes.

He said Rs140 million was allocated for the road sector and Rs17 million for the purchase of vehicles. From the saved amount, the meeting also approved Rs10 million for repairs of roads, Rs8 million for schools, Rs7 million for the buildings department, Rs5 million for emergency services and Rs7 million for payment of telephone bills of district offices.

It was also decided that half of Rs16 million of transaction fund would be utilized on offices of the district Nazim, Naib Nazim, DCO and EDOs and the remaining half would be given to the district's talukas and union councils.

Mr Rafiquzzaman asked the officers to submit their demand lists at his secretariat in a week so that the amount of transaction fund could be got released from the authority concerned.

He said another Rs15 million was saved from ongoing development schemes of the HDA, out of which Rs4 million would be utilized on the improvement of the Agha Khan Pumping Station, Rs6 million on repairs of storm water drains in Latifabad, Rs3 million on reconstruction of the I. H. Zubairi College in Hyderabad phase-I and Rs2 million on maintenance of the Makhdoom Ghulam Hyder School in Hala.

He asked the officers to complete the schemes before the end of the current financial year. The Nazim also asked the EDO, works and services, to prepare a feasibility report of maintenance of city roads which were in decrepit condition and creating traffic problems for the people.

He said the cost of the scheme would be met from other savedfunds. He directed the officers to efficiently utilize development funds so that no amount lapsed.
