TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 14: PPP leader Khalid Malik, a former Punjab industries minister during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's tenure, has joined hands with the PML-Q.

Khalid Malik was also a PPP candidate from a Gojra provincial assembly seat in the last general elections. Recently, he met Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi during his Toba Tek Singh visit. He also called on Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Tuesday last in Islamabad where he requested the prime minister to provide gas to Nawan Lahore, a small town of his constituency.

A source told Dawn that the prime minister had approved the proposed scheme and directed the SNGPL authorities to provide the gas facility to Nawan Lahore. Around Rs100 million would be spent on the project, the source said.

CONCERN: The Anjuman Tajran and Goods Transport Association expressed grave concern over the rising incidents of highway theft on Faisalabad-Toba Road between Painsara and Gojra.

In a joint meeting, they complained that when truck drivers slowed down the speed at deserted places, the thieves climbed up their vehicles and took away precious cloths and other goods.

They said that during the last few weeks goods worth millions of rupees were stolen by highway thieves from the trucks. Office bearers of both the organizations urged the district police officers to take solid steps to check the crime.

TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed and three others sustained injuries in traffic accidents here on Wednesday. A wagon (9555-FDS) was coming from Gojra to Toba Tek Singh when it was hit by a speeding bus (4737-LRJ) on Toba-Gojra Road near Chak 323-JB, injuring three passengers. They were rushed to the DHQ Hospital where food inspector Chaudhry Siddique of Chak 367-JB died.

In another accident near Rajana, a woman was crushed to death while her son sustained serious injuries. They were going to a village from Rajana by motorcycle with their relative when a speeding tractor hit them. The injured was admitted to the Rajana RHC in critical condition.
