SHIKARPUR, Jan 8: The police arrested two bandits while they were cutting electric wires from a 11kv live line near Jano Sharif village on Thursday and recovered 300kg of wire from their possession.

Ghulam Nabi Jafri and Budho Banglani were cutting wires from a 11kv line passing over some fields near the village when the police conducted a raid and arrested them red-handed. Three hundred kilograms of electric wire, worth Rs150,000, was also recovered from their possession.

RALLY: A rally was taken out by the All Sindh Primary Teachers Association, Shikarpur, here on Thursday to protest against the alleged corruption of the assistant district education officer (boys).

The protesters reached the office of the executive district officer where they held a demonstration. The association leaders, while holding talks with district officer Mohammad Bux Pechuho, complained that the assistance district officer was forcing school headmasters to pay him Rs23 examination fee instead of Rs15 as allowed by the education authorities and Rs500 scout fee instead of Rs100.

They also complained that the ADO was demanding Rs2,000 from the school management committee funds. The leaders demanded that the ADO should be transferred.

SANITATION: To overcome sanitation and drainage problems in the town, all resources would be utilized and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.

Shikarpur District Nazim Mohammad Arif Mahar said this while speaking at a citizens' meeting at the district council hall here on Thursday to discuss the problems faced by the people.

Mr Mahar said that it was his wish to provide the people in rural and urban areas with the basic amenities of life. He expressed his concern over the poor performance of the taluka council regarding cleanliness and improvement of the sanitation system. He appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the taluka and district departments.
