Maiden century by Zeeshan

KARACHI, Jan 7: Wicket-keeper Ahmed Zeeshan Malik scored a maiden first-class century to put PIA firmly in control of their Patron's Trophy Pool 'A' match against Bangladesh 'A' at Quaid-i-Azam Cricket Park on Wednesday.

Bangladesh 'A', having conceded a massive lead of 299, were in deep trouble at 134 for five in the second innings by stumps on the penultimate day of the game.

Saqlain Mushtaq, the off-spinner, had picked up three for 45 to go with his six first innings wickets. The tourists need a further 165 runs to make PIA bat again.

Earlier, PIA added 149 to their overnight tally of 353 for six. They declared an hour after lunch as soon as Ahmed Zeeshan had completed his century, while driving paceman Alamgir Kabir through mid-on for four. His unbeaten 100 off 148 balls was laced with eight fours and one six in a stay of three hours and 34 minutes.

Saqlain also batted well to contribute 38 while adding 107 runs for the eighth wicket with Ahmed Zeeshan in 137 minutes.
