KARACHI: Dussehra celebrated

Published October 27, 2001

KARACHI, Oct 26: Members of the Hindu community celebrated their annual religious festival of Dussehra on Friday.

Special religious meetings were organized to mark the occasion in all the city temples, while the central meeting was organized at the Swami Narayan Temple opposite the KMC Head Office on M.A. Jinnah Road in the evening.

Religious leaders, in their sermons, highlighted the importance of the occasion. Bhajans — religious songs — were also sung.

The festival is celebrated for the war waged between Lord Sri Rama, a symbol of truth, and Ravana, the symbol of untruth and terror, who was eventually defeated by Sri Rama.

The meeting concluded with special prayers for solidarity and integrity of the country and prosperity of the community.

Afterwards, Langar — free food — was also distributed among the devotees.
