JI chief's policies criticized

PESHAWAR, Jan 4: The Awami National Party has asked Jamaat-i- Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed to stop deceiving the people and accept that he has been the chief supporter of Gen Pervez Musharraf since the Oct 99 military takeover.

In a statement issued here, ANP's provincial secretary Fareed Toofan expressed his amusement over what he termed his (Qazi Hussain's) sudden realization about Gen Musharraf's unfairness besides reminding him about efforts of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leadership to stop PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and PML chief Minan Nawaz Sharif from becoming the country's prime minister for the third time by advising the military hierarchy to promulgate an ordinance in this regard.

He said Qazi Hussain Ahmed and his team had paved the way for Gen Musharraf to head the government and the army at the same time and amend the Constitution, destroying its parliamentary democratic spirit. The MMA, he said, had also facilitated Gen Musharraf on Jan 1 to secure the vote of confidence.
