KARACHI, Jan 2: The University of Karachi has planned to conduct research, development and teaching in the Satellite Remote Sensing (SRS) and GIS, with special emphasis on software tools and customized software development , simulation and modelling.

A KU spokesman, announcing this on Friday, said that KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Said Saify would supervise the new programmes. KU's Computer Science department had already arranged a highly qualified, PhD scientist, Dr Aqeel Kidwai, in this connection, he added.

He said that the funds for the purpose had been provided by Science and Technology ministry and the HEC. The department has also initiated other research oriented programmes in software configuration management and intelligent software computing.-APP
