Human smuggler held

Published January 1, 2004

LAHORE, Dec 31: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a human smuggler from Qila Dedar Sigh after an encounter.

An FIA official told Dawn that the agency had received three complaints against Naeem Butt of Gujranwala for taking hundreds and thousands of rupees from complainants on the pretext of sending them Spain.

On a tip off, a FIA team raided his whereabouts in Qila Dedar Singh along with the local policemen. Naeem's accomplices Azam and Jehangir reportedly opened fire on them when they reached there to arrest him.

Both the accomplices, however, managed to escape. The accused has been shifted to the FIA's Lahore passport cell.
