KARACHI, May 16: Two men travelling on a motorcycle were injured when the police opened fire on them in North Karachi on Thursday morning, after they allegedly tried to speed away when the police signalled them to stop.
However, the police claimed that they opened fire in retaliation after the two men fired at a police party.
Aslam and Ejaz were passing through Sector 5-C/3 in North Karachi on their motorcycle (LHX-3169) when the police signalled them to stop during a snap check.
The police opened fire on them when they tried to speed away. Aslam and Ejaz were injured. The police arrested Ejaz, but Aslam escaped. Ejaz had been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the police said.
Aslam was also brought to the hospital by his family, where the police arrested him.
CARJACKING: Fifteen vehicles — eight cars and seven motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.
Four cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.
Three motorcycles were hijacked. Four others were stolen.
The police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered three vehicles in the city.
WOUNDED: Bandits shot and wounded a young man at a petrol station in PIB Colony on Thursday.
Jameel Ahmed, aged 35, was getting petrol into his motorcycle at a filling station when two armed men, riding on a motorcycle, came there and demanded cash from cashier Mohammed Hanif.
When Jameel tried to put up resistance to the bandits, they opened fire on him and escaped.
