RAWALPINDI, Feb 19: The Federal Investigation Agency obtained on Thursday remand of three suspected terrorists for their alleged involvement in the Mumbai terrorist attack.

The accused are in Adiala jail for trial under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

FIA Inspector Zahid Akhtar and special public prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar submitted the case and sought 15 days’ custody for investigation.

ATC Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot allowed 12-day custody of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, a resident of Islamabad, Abdul Wajid alias Zarar Shah of Sheikhupura and Mazhar Iqbal alias Abu Al Qama of Islamabad.

The judge allowed that the accused could be kept in the jail which has been declared a court by the Punjab government at the request of Interior Ministry.

FIA officials said the accused had been arrested on Feb 18 from the Swan bus terminal on the outskirts of Rawalpindi.

They alleged that the three were active and desperate members of the proscribed Lashkar-i-Taiba organisation. Lakhvi was their commander and they were involved in the Mumbai attacks.

They said the accused were nominated in FIR 1/09 under section 7 (terrorism), 11-U, 21-C, 21-I (terrorist and banned organisations) of the act, 302 (murder) read with 34 (murder by more than one person), 109 (abetment) Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and 11(misuse of encryption), 17 (cyber terrorism), 19 (abetting, aiding or attempting to commit offence) of Prevention of Electronic Crimes Ordinance (PECO) 2008 registered on February 12, 2009 with FIA Islamabad.

The investigators wanted information about other accused and explosive material and other incriminating articles.

The FIA had obtained the physical custody of another accused Hammad Amin Saddiq, on Monday. March 3 has been fixed as the next date of hearing.
