Helicopter attacks in Darra

KOHAT, Feb 6: Helicopter gunships shelled militants’ positions adjacent to Khyber and Orakzai agencies on Friday.

The helicopters attacked camps set up by Darra Adamkhel militants in government schools and the hujra of levy subedar Resham Khan, officials said. The buildings were damaged and three militants were killed.

AFP quoted a security official as saying that Frontier Corps troops killed 52 militants, targeted five hideouts and destroyed an ammunition dump and eight vehicles in Chapri Ferozekhel.

However, a Taliban spokesman said that one militant had been injured.

According to our correspondent in Khyber Agency, an activist of the banned Lashkar-i-Islam was killed when helicopter gunships attacked a vehicle in Mamanri area of Bara.

Security forces arrested seven tribesmen at Spina Thana checkpoint in Darra Adamkhel Frontier Region and seized two hand-grenades and two pistols. Official sources said the suspects were going in a vehicle from Darra Adamkhel when they were stopped at the checkpoint.
