HYDERABAD, Feb 1: The All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) has appealed to the Sindh chief minister, irrigation minister and the Central Board of Revenue to retrieve the irrigation department’s land in Phulelli canal division from land grabbers.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday, the provincial general secretary of the association, Ashraf Khan Bozai, and chairman of its irrigation department chapter Munawar Soomro said that land grabbers with the help of women of objectionable character had taken possession of irrigation land RD-26 Phulelli canal division near Noorani Basti.

They said that whenever irrigation officials tried to stop the land grabbers from occupying government land, they were implicated in different cases. They deplored that even some officials of the revenue department were involved in the dirty business.

They said that one of the land grabbers earned millions of rupees by disposing of irrigation land and disappeared. They said that they had informed the Board of Revenue officials about the fraud and forgery in the allotment of land who had ordered an inquiry into the matter.

They said that it was proved in the inquiry that the land belonged to the irrigation department and the director of evaluation and inspection asked the EDO revenue of Hyderabad to cancel the bogus allotments but the matter was still pending.

The APCA leaders appealed to the Sindh chief minister, irrigation minister and senior members of the Board of Revenue to intervene and retrieve the irrigation land from the mafia.

PROTEST: Activists of the Fundamental Rights Commission of Pakistan (FRCP), an NGO, staged a demonstration in front of the press club on Sunday to protest against proposed grant of amnesty to an alleged Indian terrorist, Sarbjeet Singh.

FRCP chairman Abdul Jabbar Rehmani and other leaders said that Sarbjeet was involved in bomb blasts that had resulted in the deaths of 14 persons including children and injured 84 others.

They said that he had confessed of having committed the crime and was awarded death and even the former president had rejected his application for clemency. They regretted that the federal law ministry had now moved a summary to the president for grant of clemency to the Indian terrorist.

They said that Sarbjeet deserved no leniency.

UPLIFT WORK: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the agencies concerned to complete work on Gharib Nawaz Flyover and repair and renovation of Phulelli Bridge without any delay.

He issued the instructions while inspecting work on the flyover. He said that manholes of sewerage line between Bacha Khan Chowk and Tulsidas pumping station should be repaired immediately to facilitate the work on the flyover.

He said that drains should be cleansed to ensure that they did not overflow and hamper smooth flow of vehicular traffic. He reminded the officials concerned that it was the most important road of the city as it was used by thousands of people coming to Hyderabad from interior of Sindh.

DCO Aftab Khatri and Hyderabad Development Project director Syed Faraz Ali Shah were present on the occasion.
