KARACHI, Jan 26: The Sindh High Court Monday issued notices to the secretaries of the Sindh High Court Bar Association and the Karachi Bar Association on a petition against alleged non-utilisation of government funds for renovation of Tahir Plaza, which was burnt by arsonists on April 9, 2008.

Advocate Ghulam Qadir Jatoi moved the court, citing the owner of Tahir Plaza, the managing director of the Karachi Electric Supply Company and others as respondents. He submitted that many offices of lawyers were burnt as an unruly mob set fire to Tahir Plaza, opposite the city courts during violence on April 9, last year. He alleged that the owner of Tahir Plaza in collusion with the KESC disconnected power supply to the building without any notice to owners of the offices. He said the government later provided huge funds for renovation of the burnt plaza, but its owners did not fully utilise them. He prayed to the court to direct the respondents to immediately restore power supply to the building and question utilisation of funds.—PPI
