PESHAWAR, Jan 20: The Peshawar District Bar Association (PDBA) would observe boycott of the subordinate courts on Wednesday against alleged manhandling of a lawyer by some court officials in the Judicial Complex.

The PDBA announced on Tuesday that its members would observe boycott of the courts against the occurrence during which Advocate Fayyaz Ahmad was allegedly thrashed by some clerical staffers of the court of civil judge Najeebul Haq on Jan 17.

An FIR was registered at police station East Cantonment against stenographer Saifullah Khan and two readers of the court on the complaint of Fayyaz Ahmad.

The complainant alleged that he visited the courtroom in connection with a case but the stenographer reportedly misbehaved with him.

He alleged that when he protested against his attitude the staffers allegedly started beating him which resulted in injuries to him.

An additional district and sessions judge, Syed Zamurad Shah, has been conducting an inquiry in that regard.

Meanwhile, the three staffers charged in the case were granted interim pre-arrest bail by the court of additional district and sessions judge, Rauf Khan, on Tuesday.

The court fixed Jan 31 for next hearing of their case and directed them to furnish two sureties each of Rs50,000.

The applicants contradicted the lawyers’ version of the story and claimed that the complainant had used abusive language against them.

They stated that first he abused the staffers and then went away and brought large number of lawyers to the courtroom who also misbehaved with them.
