650 official phones go silent

GUJRANWALA, Jan 13: As many as 650 telephone connections of government functionaries, including the commissioner, the DCO and police, health and education high-ups beside Rescue-1122 and Edhi Centre, went dead after unidentified people cut a PTCL cable near Model Town Exchange on GT Road here on Tuesday.

Terming it a sabotage activity, the sub-divisional officer filed a complaint with the police to take action against the responsible.

The PTCL had laid a separate cable to provide government functionaries telephone connections from Model Town Exchange.

The alleged saboteurs entered the six-foot deep manhole during night and cut the cable as a result of which almost all telephone connections went dead. However, most of them used their cellular phones to take guidance from their superiors to perform their functions.

Meanwhile, the Model Town police registered a case against unidentified people and started investigations.
