ISLAMABAD, Jan 11: Members of the British Parliamentary delegation raised the issue of reinstatement of judiciary during a meeting with Law Minister Farooq Naek on Sunday.

According to sources, members of the delegation, James Devine, Mark Fisher, James McGovern and Mohammad Sarwar said the government should fulfil its commitment about restoring all sacked judges, including chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

They said that the reinstatement of the judges was vital for restoring people’s confidence in judiciary.

They called for effective steps to ensure rule of law.

The minister said that the deposed judges were being reinstated in phases and 90 per cent of them had already been reinstated. Mr Naek briefed the delegation on steps being taken by the government to maintain law and order.

The delegation invited Mr Naek to visit the UK to explore opportunities of cooperation between Pakistani and British lawyers.

Mr Naek welcomed the setting up of Pakistan International Forum by Ambassador-at-Large Javed Malik.
