TIMERGARA, Jan, 10: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) demanded on Saturday of the international community and Muslim world to force Israel to stop mass killing of innocent Palestinians.
It also demanded of the government to officially condemn Israeli bombardment of Gaza and use diplomatic sources to help stop the Israeli attacks against Palestinians. These demands were made at a protest rally held here in front of the DCO office at Balambat organised by JI Lower Dir chapter.
The rally was attended by workers of different political parties which were addressed by district chief of the JI Maulana Ahmad Ghafoor Ghawas, Maulana Hidayatullah, Izazul Mulk, Maulana Ubaidullah Khalil, nazim Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) Dir division Bacha Nawab, nazim Jamiat Talaba Arabia Maulana Rahatullah and others.
The protesters blocked the Timergara-Bajaur road for some time while chanting slogans against Israel, America and western powers. Speakers on the occasion said Israel had been engaged in mass killing of the innocent and unarmed Palestinians but the world powers had been doing nothing to save them.
They said Israel wanted to create unsolvable problems for the new American leadership.
“The Muslim rulers should immediately announce holy war (jihad) against the brutal Israel and Muslim youth across the globe should take part in it,” one of the speakers remarked, adding that ‘jihad’ was the only solution to the Palestine issue.
The speakers were of the view that it was America not the Israel that had imposed war on Palestinians, therefore, Pakistan should pull out of the war on terror.
They also demanded through a unanimously passed resolution that world powers should declare Israel as a terrorist state. They threatened to intensify their protest if the government did not break its silence on the issue.
QAZI COURTS: The former provincial minister and PPP-Sherpao provincial general secretary Bakht Baidar Khan has said that his party would strongly resist to alleged government plan to end the Qazi courts in Malakand region.
Talking to journalists in Timergara press club on Saturday Mr Baidar said the central government was planning to abolish sharia courts in the region where Qazis had been serving as judges.
He also accused the ANP-led government of deceiving the TNSM chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad that it would enforce sharia in Malakand region.
“Earlier leaders of the ANP would try to take credit of Sufi’s release but now they do not even like to talk to him seriously,” Mr Baidar said, adding Qazi courts had been set up in Malakand after a long struggle and that the PPP-S would not allow to abolish these courts.
“If the government ended these courts, our party will stand against the move,” Mr Khan pointed out.
He criticised the provincial government for not heeding to people’s problems and said Pakhtuns had been facing serious problems but the rulers had shut their lips.
He said neither the ANP nor the PPP was able to win the by-elections as they had disappointed the masses.
