NOWSHERA, Jan 9: A man from Bajaur Agency attempted self-immolation at the Jalozai relief camp for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) due to ‘non-provision’ of proper food and health facilities to his family. Witnesses said that people gathered on the occasion and foiled his suicide attempt but he received burn injuries.

Tahseenullah, 55, said that the camp authorities had not been providing him ration card due to same unknown reason. He claimed that he had requested the authorities for proper food and health facilities as his family had been starving but they turned a deaf ear to his repeated requests.

Over 2,000 displaced families from Bajaur have presently been residing at the Jalozai camp situated here on the Cherat road.

In the ongoing winter season, the IDPs have been facing numerous problems including food, health and warm clothes and beddings.

Our Correspondent from Charsadda adds: The IDPs from Bajaur, Mohmand and Swat have been facing multiple problems specially due to harsh weather.

The IDPs have requested the civil society groups to further step up their support for them as they had been facing problems of food, medicines and warm clothing. Several IDPs told this scribe that the registration process should be expedited as presently it had been going on with snail’s pace. —Correspondent
