Anti-Israel rally held in London

LONDON, Jan 9: A highly charged ‘Stop the War’ rally by an estimated 3,000 people on Thursday evening shouted emotional approvals when speakers called upon the UK government to expel the Israeli ambassador forthwith and asked fellow Britons to boycott Israeli goods.

The gathering decided to stage protest marches on every Saturday and demonstrate in front of the Israeli embassy every day.

The speakers included Tariq Ali, Tony Benn, George Galloway, Lindsay German, Sally Hunt, Hugh Lanning, MP Jeremy Corbyn, British Muslim Initiative representative Ismail Patel and Palestinian representative Hasan.

Tony Benn led the call for expulsion of the Israeli ambassador while George Galloway shamed the British media, especially the BBC, for toeing the line of Israel and the US in their biased reporting.

Galloway also warned the British government that more tragedies like the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza would only end up radicalising the British Muslim youth further. He levelled the harshest criticism at the kings and dictators of the Muslim world for their shameful silence.

Tariq Ali said two-state solution was a non-starter and pleaded for the establishment of one state where people of all the faiths and ethnicity could live side by side harmoniously.

He blamed the Oslo accords for the present bloody chaos and argued that by two-state Israelis and the US meant a subjugated people of Palestine agreeing to live under the unquestioned authority of the Israeli government.

Most speakers reminded the big powers and their media that Hamas was not a ‘militant’ organisation, “it is an elected entity and if you want to get rid of Hamas then you will have get rid of the very electorate that voted for it”.

They also reminded the world media that the Palestinian rockets were not the cause of the bloodbath but the Israeli siege that had denied food and medicine to the Palestinians in Gaza since they elected Hamas.

Amidst thunderous clapping Tariq Ali and Sally Hunt informed the gathering how the people of Norway were protesting against the Gaza massacre. “Norway’s Railway union has slowed down the service and the other trade unions of the country are asking the government to stop all economic links with Israel.”

A number of speakers also asked the UK to stop selling arms to Israel.
