LAHORE, Jan 6: Fancied bay filly Boski left behind her 10 rivals when she stormed home to easy victory during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Tuesday.
Off to a flying start, Boski led the field as her rivals proved to be of far lesser standard. She won by a big margin of over eight lengths.
Owned by Khawaja Asif Hassan and ridden by riding boy Munir Ahmed, the filly beat struggling bay mare Bobby Love. Anarkali and Leader’s Wing completed the frame.
This was Boski’s second consecutive win.
The Malir Plate, class VII, division II handicap race gone over 1,000 metres was the third in racing order.
The fifth and the last race of the day featuring a small card of five events was won by bay mare Mama Mia.
Trained by Sohail Aziz, the filly beat Luka Toni by a neck in a breathtaking finish to make owner Syed Pervez Hussain proud.
King Of Murad finished third while Best Owner completed the frame.
The seven-year-old chestnut horse Sudden Death, who had been denied victory for a long while now succeeded at last by winning the opener.
He beat bay colt Easy Load by five lengths. Sana and Best Choice completed the frame.
The chestnut Best Choice and bay mare Blank Cheque, who were backed for places put up a dismal show. First, they were slow to take a start and second, their riders were disinterested in riding their mounts on merit.
Riding boys Sajjad Hussain and Naseer Ahmed and trainer S. Butt shared the day’s racing honours, scoring a double each.
Sajjad Hussain rode Sudden Death and Come On in the first and second race to earn a profitable double. Naseer Ahmed partnered Alpha Juliet and Mama Mia in the fourth and fifth race. Trainer S. Butt sent out Sudden Death in the opener and the fourth race to return home triumphantly.
All races were contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres.
The races were delayed because a heavily represented delegation of owners, trainers and the turf accountants called on the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards to apprise them of their problems.
Stewards Mian Abdul Waheed, Masood Pervez and Syed Pervez Hussain besides the Jockey Club Of Pakistan (JCP) steward Munir Dar gave the delegation a patient hearing for about half-an-hour.
After the meeting Mian Abdul Waheed and Masood Pervez told Dawn said a stewards meeting with their delegation to be presided over by the LRC chairman will be held on Sunday to take up the matter and arrive at a decision.
