ISLAMABAD, May 13: The parliamentary party of ruling AJK Muslim Conference on Monday unanimously decided not to allow any attempt of changing the state’s parliamentary system into presidential system through proposed amendment to give more powers to the president.

The AJK MC parliamentary, in a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, took serious view of reports of move to amend the state constitution for giving more powers to president Mohammad Anwar Khan.

MC President Sardar Ateeq Ahmed Khan was absent and he was said to be busy in a meeting with Murree general officer commanding.

Those who attended the meeting included, MC supreme leader President’s Kashmir Committee Chairman Sardar Abdul Qayum Khan, Speaker Sardar Sayab Khalid, Raja Farooq Haider, Shah Gulam Qadir and others.

Sources said the party legislators criticised the government and said their genuine tasks were not being attended by the bureaucracy.

Sikandar Hayat complained of some party stalwarts working to destabilise his government. He said: “Some people are busy meeting the forces that be and not caring to keep the party united.”

A member said that the two factions of the party, which existed before the state polls, were disbanded officially but they were still working in practice and damaging the party interests.

Majority of the Legislative Assembly members expressed their confidence in the government and the prime minister.

The party resolved to allocate substantial funds for every LA member in the next budget to solve local problems.

It also directed the AJK bureaucracy to work in accordance with the directives of the state government and to cooperate in resolving the problems of the people as suggested by the elected representatives.
