KARACHI, Jan 6: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman has called for practical action by the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) for effective implementation of the steps having nexus with KBCA responsibilities and powers.

He said that supremacy of rules and regulations must be ensured when there was a violation of building laws. Illegalities must be discouraged, he stressed.

Chairing a review meeting on KBCA services in his office on Tuesday, the chief secretary emphasised that coordinated and sustainable measures were necessary to be taken to ensure supremacy of laws.

The chief secretary was informed that a summary in this regard was in the initial stage for approval from the higher authority.

He told the officials concerned that he should be immediately informed about the progress of the matter so that the summary could be forwarded to the chief minister.

Meanwhile, the chief secretary directed the home secretary and all DCOs to augment their liaison with all the departments concerned for ensuring foolproof security arrangements during Muharram. He said effective security steps be taken for the processions and along their routes and venues of congregations, besides all mosques and Imambargahs.

He called for ensuring a smooth flow of traffic, uninterrupted supply of water and power and proper arrangements for sewerage and sanitation. Mr Rehman also issued directives for the provision of all required facilities to law-enforcement agencies deployed across the province. —APP
