LAHORE, Jan 5: A small card of five events awaits race-goers when the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races gets underway at the Racecourse on Tuesday.

Races scheduled for Wednesday are being held a day earlier due to the 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram falling on that day.

The card comprises mediocre runners in class VI and class VII divisions. All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres.

Four-year-old filly Boski, who had registered an easy victory last Wednesday, looks set to make it two wins on the trot. The way she strode to victory was remarkable on first try out.

She is contesting in the third race, the Malir Plate class VII division II handicap event. Of the 11 runners in the contest, Bobby Love, Anarkali and Sohna Murad may fight for places.

The feature and the fifth race, Kotli Plate class VI division III and IV combined have 11 runners barring last-minute withdrawals. On recent form and showing in races only three come into reckoning.

The main contestants are: Mirana Shaheen, Luka Toni and Mama Mia.

Three-year-old filly Mirana Shaheen is showing improvement with each running and should have the better of her rivals and win top honours.

In the fourth race, three of the 10 acceptors attract attention, namely, Alpha Juliet, Candidate and Golden Falcon. On handicap, the first named filly has an edge over the others. She is faster than the others.

Lion Horse, My One and Come On look good in the second race to fight for picking up the spoils. The four-year-old chestnut colt, Lion Horse who registered a close win last Wednesday should repeat his performance this time.

My One and Come On could be her challengers in the big field of 13 runners.

The first race has seven runners as unreliable as ever, in the lowest division of class VII. One wonders at the patience of their owners, who still hope they might win. Although their form is as deceptive as their performances, yet if nothing goes wrong with him, the four-year-old chestnut colt should register his career’s first win on Tuesday.

In all, 52 runners are to face the starter in five events, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. The first race will be held at 1.00pm.
