SIALKOT, Jan 5: Police claim to have gunned down three alleged proclaimed offenders in an encounter near Qila Kalarwala village, Pasrur tehsil, on Monday morning.

DPO Muhammad Ameen told journalists that six unidentified armed dacoits were escaping after looting gold ornaments, cash, electronics and other valuables from the house of a landlord, Fazal Ahmad, when a patrolling party of Pasrur police was informed of the incident and started chasing the outlaws.

On seeing the police, the outlaws opened fire on them. In retaliatory police fire, three of the dacoits were killed on the spot while their accomplices fled away, the DPO claimed.

The dead dacoits were later identified as Afzal of Nadala Mughalaan village, Ahmad Din of Sarosh Barhmnaa village, and Dilawar Hussain of Hathal village of Shakargarh tehsil, he said.

The DPO further said the dead outlaws were wanted in more than 40 cases of dacoity, robbery, theft and other heinous crimes.

Eyewitnesses told the newsmen that police placed the bodies in the village for sometime for identification.

Pasrur DSP Saleem Sadiq told the newsmen that the bodies had been shifted to Sialkot DHQ Hospital for autopsy. Police have registered a case and started investigation. It was the second police encounter of 2009 in the district. Earlier, on Jan 2, a PO, Shoaib alias Shoaibi, bearing head money of Rs0.5 million, was killed near Daska.

BOOKED: Daska city police have registered a case against three sons of a sub-inspector for snatching gold ornaments, cash and other valuables from their stepmother at her Model Town residence.

According to the FIR lodged by SI Syed Shamshad Husain Shah, his sons Asif Ali, Qasim Ali and Ehsan Ali barged into the house of their stepmother and made her hostage at gunpoint. The accused, after locking up their stepmother in a room, collected the cash and valuables and fled away. No arrests have been made so far.

FALL UNCONSCIOUS: As many as seven students of a seminary fell unconscious after drinking toxic juice served after Quran Khawani held at a house near Sambrial Road, Daska, on Monday.

According to Daska City police, the students of Jamia Saddiqia Taleem-ul-Quran, Mughalpura, went to the house of one Muhammad Ajmal for recitation of the Holy Quran. At the end of the event, the students were served juice. After taking the juice Hafiz Idrees, Hafiz Sajid Ali, Hafiz Jasim Ali, Hafiz Arsalan, Hafiz Muhammad Bilal, Hafiz Fahad and Hafiz Ali Haider fell unconscious. They were shifted to Daska THQ Civil Hospital in a critical condition.

Hospital doctors told the police that the juice served to the students was toxic. While, Ajmal claimed that he bought the juice from a local shopkeeper.

Sialkot DPO Muhammad Ameen said the police have registered a case against the shopkeeper under Section 324 of the PPC after arresting him.
