ISLAMABAD, Jan 5: The Foreign Office on Monday confirmed that India had handed over some information material regarding terrorist attacks in Mumbai to Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.
Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq, confirmed that the material had been received and said: “The Indian foreign secretary has handed over some information material regarding terrorist attacks in Mumbai to Pakistan’s High Commissioner in New Delhi this morning.”
He said the material had been received now and was being examined by the authorities concerned.
Identity of Kasab being verified
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik has said that a letter purported to be from Ajmal Kasab, a suspect in Mumbai attacks arrested by India, has been received and his citizenship and identity are being verified.
Talking to journalists in Karachi on Monday, Mr Malik said a decision on whether to provide him a lawyer would be taken after it was confirmed that he was a Pakistani citizen.
He said Pakistan would not accept pressure from any quarter and it would take decisions in accordance with its own laws.
He said that that no-one would be allowed to use Pakistani soil for terrorism, adding that anti-terror laws were being made more stringent.
Replying to a question, he said the arrest of Sindh National Front chief Mumtaz Bhutto was a provincial matter.
He added that everyone should abide by the laws.—APP
