KARACHI, May 13: Over a hundred handicapped children were entertained with music and food at an elite seaside restaurant on Monday.

The function was organized under the fun and food for handicapped children project of noted artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer.

Children from the Ida Rieu School and College for the Deaf and Blind, Darul Sukoon, Hope and Faith participated in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the social worker said he was trying to line up around 25 to 30 elite restaurants and five-star hotels to entertain around 100 handicapped children at least once a month.

In this way, he said, around 2,500 to 3,000 handicapped children who otherwise could not avail the opportunity would have a chance to enjoy the elite environment.

He said though a number of hotels and restaurants had been participating in the project, more hotels should come forward and help these less- privileged children.

Shakil Ahmad of the Salt’n Pepper Village said when Jimmy Engineer discussed about the programme, his organization was the first to agree and start it.

Stage and television artist Farzana Naz, who has been entertaining the children voluntarily since the programme began over a year back, performed on the occasion.

Earlier, a former student of the Ida Rieu School, Saleem Qureshi, who now teaches music at the school and is visually impaired, also sang songs. Handicapped children of Ida Rieu, including Mohsin, Ikram, Zainab, Tasleem, Sonia, and Julian sang national and folk songs.

Fawzia Siddiqui of SADA Welfare Foundation distributed gifts among the children.
