ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology has stressed the need for development and introduction of cheap energy sources, i.e. micro-hydel power and bio-gas to overcome the energy crisis in the country.

This was stated by Dr Abdul Kadir Khanzada, chairman of the committee who along with members of the committee visited the head office of the Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET) on Saturday to evaluate performance and progress of the council.

The chairman and members took keen interest in activities of the council and advised the council to concentrate their efforts on technologies, which are viable and cheap, particularly microhydel power and biogas.

To stand above systems, solar energy (photovoltaic) could be useful for special application, he added.

He further stated that PCRET can play a vital role to overcome energy requirements in the country by using renewable energy technologies.

The committee also directed to focus on research and development related to Solar Energy (Photovoltaic) and other renewable energy technologies.

The meeting was also attended by MNAs Abdul Qadir Patel, Anusha Rahman Khan, Chaudhry Mamood Bashir Virk, Akram Mashi Gill, Begum Shahnaz Sheikh, Zafar Beg Bhittani, Mrs Shamshad Sattar Bachani and Senator Rukhsana Zubari, Chairman, Pakistan Engineering Council.—APP
