Power outage disrupts work at GPO

Published January 3, 2009

ATTOCK, Jan 2: Residents of Attock are facing inconvenience in availing services of the General Post Office (GPO) due to power outage especially during the evening hours.

They face problem in depositing utility bills, dispatching parcels, mails and other articles due to loadshedding that occurs between 3pm and 9pm. No arrangement of power generator is available at the GPO.

A large number of people are seen standing outside the GPO waiting for work to resume which is interrupted due to loadshedding.

These people claim that they were told by the GPO staff that due to darkness and security reasons, working at the office had been suspended.

However, when contacted, GPO Senior Postmaster Azhar Iqbal said the working was stopped temporarily not because of darkness as emergency lights were available inside the office but due to security reasons as it was very dark outside the premises.

He said the GPO had two power connections from separate feeders to avoid any inconvenience in case of loadshedding. But loadshedding was being observed at both feeders simultaneously for the last few days, which was affecting the official working at the GPO during the evening.
