KHAR, Jan 1: Two civilians were killed and 10 others injured in a missile attack by suspected militants on Thursday.

The political administration confirmed the attack and the casualty and said that missiles had been fired on Khar and adjoining areas from Kawsar Banda and Neyag and mountainous areas of Kohi Mor and Maram Ghundai.

One of the missiles landed in the premises of the office of the Fata Rural Development Project.

The injured were taken to the district hospital where four of them were said to be in serious condition.

The missiles were fired when a jirga between the Bajaur administration and elders of the Mamond tribe was under way in the Civil Colony.

The tribesmen were asked to hand over suspects to the political demonstration and take action against militants carrying out subversive activities.

The administration warned that the areas being used by militants to target security forces and civilians would be attacked if the tribal elders failed to fulfil their collective responsibility.

Our correspondent adds from Mohmand: A soldier of the Mohmand Rifles was killed and two others were wounded in an attack on a checkpost on Thursday.

Officials said that security forces demolished 25 houses of militants and arrested 10 tribesmen for allegedly sheltering criminals.

The troops claim seizing suicide vests, masks and ammunition from hideouts of militants. The arrested persons were produced before the media.

It is learnt that the militants attacked the Derwazgai checkpost with rockets in which soldier Niaz Gul was killed.
