HYDERABAD, Jan 1: The death toll of burn victims of an oil tanker explosion in Tandojam rose to three after an injured died on Thursday but the government has not yet announced any compensation to the bereaved families.
Mushtaq Zaunr died in a Karachi hospital on Thursday and his body was brought to his native village Usman Shah Huri in the Tandojam area, confirmed Tandojam SPO Khalid Taggar. He said Mushtaq was buried in the village’s graveyard and the police were informed about his death.
Earlier, Inayatullah Rajput, the fire superintendent of Taluka Municipal Administration (TMA) City and Shahzad Zaunr, a local villager had also died in a Karachi hospital. Rajput had received around 60 per cent burn injuries while the two deceased had sustained more than 40 per cent burn wounds. They were subsequently referred to Karachi in view of their critical condition.
Mr Rajput had received injuries in the line of duty because he had reached the spot on time to extinguish the fire in the 22-wheeler trailer that was carrying an oil tanker.
The driver of trailer had tried to cross the Narejani railway crossing in Tandojam area but failed. The Shah Latif Express which was coming from Mirpurkhas hit it although the driver applied emergency breaker yet he couldn’t avoid a collision, resulting in a fire in the trailer and the oil tanker.
A massive explosion took place in the tanker after one hour, causing injuries to 21 persons including fire fighters like Inayatullah Rajput and villagers.
