Blast hits Kathmandu shopping area

KATHMANDU, Jan 1: A small bomb planted by suspected Hindu fundamentalists exploded in a shopping area here on Thursday injuring one person, police said.

“A street vendor received serious injuries to his legs,” a police officer at the scene said.

Ranbir Sena, a Hindu fundamentalist group that claimed responsibility for a similar blast at Kathmandu airport last week, said they were behind Thursday’s attack, according to police.

“We have recovered leaflets from Ranbir Sena claiming they planted the bomb,” police officer Ramesh Kumar Shrestha said.
