TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 31: About two-month long boycott of the court of district and sessions judge Jalaluddin Akbar was ended by district bar association members after his retirement from service on Wednesday.

DBA members had started boycotting the D&SJ’s court after they were baton-charged by police allegedly on his order on Nov 3. The lawyers were observing the black day when the incident happened.

The DBA had also passed a resolution in which it had demanded of the government and the Lahore High Court not to appoint him on any other office after his retirement. This was the first time in the history of Toba bar that a judge was not given a farewell tea party on his retirement.

SEIZED: The agriculture department’s task force seized 238 bags of urea fertilizer after a raid from the godown of a dealer at Chak 771-GB near Kamalia on Wednesday. Reports said accused Ghulam Mustafa was arrested and a case had been registered against him under the Fertiliser Control Act.

VISIT: Deposed Supreme Court judge Khalilur Rehman Ramday will arrive here on Friday (tomorrow).

He will address lawyers and inaugurate the Ramday Hall on the premises of new courts.

HANGING: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday set Jan 13 as the date for the hanging of a triple murder convict.

Siddique Jaat, who was a security guard at a Kamalia cinema, had shot dead three persons for teasing an actress during a stage show in 2004. He is imprisoned in Toba district jail.

SEALED: District drug inspector Tahir Mahmood raided Alnoor Dawakhana in Rail Bazaar, seized expired medicines in a large quantity, sealed the store and sent challan against the store owner to a drug court in Faisalabad.

LIQUOR: A youth from Hadda Rorri locality of Toba died after taking poisonous liquor on Wednesday. Sajid was a tractor driver with farmer Tahir Mahmood of Chak 430-JB. He consumed poisonous liquor and died before reaching hospital.

HERBAL MEDICINE: A youth died after taking herbal medicines prescribed by a quack in Gojra on Wednesday.

Asghar Ali of Chak 367-JB took medicine and fell unconscious. He was taken to Gojra tehsil hospital where he died. Doctors said Ali died because he took defective herbal medicines.
