Loadshedding hits hard daily-wagers

KASUR, Dec 30: Hundreds of powerlooms workers, shopkeepers and civil society activists took out processions against 20-hours long loadshedding here in Kasur and its surrounding areas on Tuesday.

Once such demo held at Bassarpura in Kasur city was attended by powerlooms workers, who are daily wagers, and shop keepers. Protestors burnt tyres and blocked the road. Amid chants against the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), speakers alleged Wapda and the government had “killed” the poor through loadshedding.

At another protest on Bhullay Shah Road, protesters demanded end to loadshedding as Muharram had set in. They said power failures would affect the mourning activities and security arrangements.

Electricity remained suspended from 7am to 7pm on Tuesday. The shortage of fuel has also silenced generators. Factory workers warned if power cuts continue, they would have nothing to feed their families.

DACOITY: Six dacoits deprived 11 factory workers of cash and cell phones at gunpoint.
