LAHORE, Dec 29: Pakistan Port Qasim (PPQ) are the fourth team to qualify for the semi-finals of the of NBP Gold Cup Hockey tournament defeating Habib Bank Limited (HBL) 4-2 in the last quarter-final at National Hockey Stadium on Monday. National Bank, PIA and Army had already entered the last four, but the last quarter-final could not be held on Sunday due to heavy fog.

At the end of the first half PPQ were leading 2-0.

Though the winners got five penalty-corner and the losers seven, they failed to convert any of them.

Azhar Khan, drew first blood in the 24th minute scoring a field goal after a short melee in front of the goalpost. Two minutes later Shabbir Khan slammed home with a goal on solo effort to enable PPQ to lead the first half 2-0.

In the second session, HBL staged a comeback and reduced the lead (2-1) through Shahbaz Ali in the 45th minute. But it was Mohsin, who again increased the lead 3-1 by scoring in the 49th minute. The bankers again managed to come from behind and made it 3-2 through a spectacular goal from Shahbaz in the 63rd minute. A last-gasp goal from Rashid Ahmed for the winners sealed the fate of the match.

Both semi-finals will be played on Tuesday. In the first pre-final NBP will lock horn with PIA and in the second one Army will take on PPQ.
