LAHORE, Dec 29: Expressing concern over letting the murderers of national leaders go scot free, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif has demanded that the government set up an independent commission to impartially investigate the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

He was talking to a delegation of Jamhoori Watan Party, led by slain Bugti’s son Talal Bugti, at Raiwind on Monday. Nawaz also demanded that the government immediately end no-go areas in Balochistan, especially in the lands of Bugti tribes.

Recalling that the late Bugti had voted in favour of establishment of Pakistan at the royal jirga and then remained loyal to the homeland, he regretted that those who violated the Constitution and damaged the national interests were awarded while the patriots were eliminated. “For how long will the nation tolerate this nonsense?” he asked.

Lamenting that the ill tradition did not come to an end even after the masses voted the democratic forces to power, the former prime minister said his party did not want a share in cabinet or any other privilege, but it did want implementation of the promises (signed) by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

He said had enforcement of the Charter of Democracy (CoD) been started, the country would have been put on the path to progress.

Agreeing to the views, Talal said the circumstances the people of Balochistan had been facing for long were now being faced by the people of other provinces as well. He believed that now a common struggle by all the provinces would change the situation.

British MP Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, PML-N Secretary-General Iqbal Zafar Jhaggra, provincial president Zulfikar Ali Khan Khosa and Pervaiz Rasheed were also present.
