BUNER, Dec 29: The death toll from Sunday’s suicide attack near a polling station in Shalbandai rose to 43 after seven bodies were retrieved from the debris overnight.

Almost all the victims were local people, except police constable Bahadur Zeb of Dir and volunteer Pervez who belonged to Cheena village.

Seven injured people were taken to Peshawar in critical condition and three were in the district headquarter hospital in Dagger.

The victims were buried amid tight security. Elders of the area asked mourners to wind up Fatehakhwani following rumours that a woman suicide bomber could attack the gathering.

Over 5,000 armed youths patrolled the area.
