FAISALABAD, Dec 28: The Punjab government will take up the issue of uninterrupted supply of electricity during Muharram with the federal government and generators will be arranged to avoid any eventuality during mourning processions and majalis.
This was decided in a meeting of divisional monitoring committee formed by the chief minister (CM) to make foolproof arrangements for Muharram.
Provincial ministers Rana Sanaullah, Malik Ahmed Aulakh and Haji Mohammad Ishaq chaired the meeting attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shaukat Javeed, Home Secretary Nadeem Hassan Asif, CM’s Adviser Jahanzeb Barki and Commissioner Zahid Saeed and others at commissioner’s office.
The committee members directed the officials concerned to make extraordinary security arrangements to avoid any eventuality during Muharram as internal and external situation of the country was very critical.
The participants decide that all district coordination officers (DCOs) would personally visit the routes of all processions and majalis venues. The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) authorities would be consulted for uninterrupted power supply and incase of power outages continued being effected from Islamabad, the provincial government would talk to the federal government on the issue, participants of the meeting decided.
The IGP said there would be a complete ban on any sort of graffiti and usage of loudspeakers. Nobody would be allowed to park vehicles near the majalis or processions and check points would be set up at various places to ensure security of mourners, he added.
Regional Police Officer Abdul Majeed said that 170 areas had been identified as “troublesome” and security personnel had been deputed to guard 1,340 processions and 3,486 majalis in the Faisalabad division.
Members of the divisional committee would also held talks with local clerics and take them into confidence over the arrangements.
