KARACHI: BS admission list

KARACHI, Dec 28: The University of Karachi has issued the second merit lists of candidates qualifying for admission in the BS (Hon) first year and BS third year/Masters programmes.

An announcment to this effect was made by an official of the university on Sunday.

The lists have been displayed at the Silver Jubilee Gate of the institution and can also be seen on the KU website: www.uok.edu.pk.

Nutraceutical foods

The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, has organised a workshop on “Nutraceutical Foods” on Tuesday at the auditorium of the Latif Ebrahim Jamal National Science Information Centre.

The workshop has been organised jointly by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the British Council, Pakistan. According to an ICCBS statement issued on Sunday, the objective of the workshop is to discuss the importance of functional/bioactive components in nutraceutical foods and promote production of nutraceutical foods on industrial scale.

Edible products possessing healing capacity and health promoting effects are known as nutraceutical foods.

The bioactive constituents of many foods have been identified during evidence-based scientific studies.

Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Coordinator General of Comstech and former HEC chairman, will inaugurate the workshop.

KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Prizada Qasim Raza Siddiqui will preside over the inaugural ceremony. Regional Director of the British Council Mashhood Rizvi, ICCBS Director Prof Dr M. Iqbal Chaudhary, Prof Rashida Ali, Sadia Naveed and Dr M. Kamran Azim will speak.—APP/PPI
