Aqeel upstages Heera in main round

ISLAMABAD, Dec 24: Aqeel Khan upstaged Heera Ashiq on the second day of the National Clay Court Tennis championship at the PTF complex on Wednesday.

In the days opening match Aqeel, top seed of the championship faced unexpected resistance from Heera Ashiq in men’s singles category. Aqeel convincingly rout his opponent Heera 7-6, 6-2. In another fixture a confident Asim Shafique, second seed, walloped Abid Mushtaq 6-0, 6-0.

Wakeel Khan, Tanvir Ashiq and Abid Ali also cruised into the next round.

In the boys U-17 category, top seed Heera Ashiq, Talha Saeed and Hamza Pataudi reached the next round. Kashan-ul-Haq got a walk over against Akbar Tawana in the boys U-13 category. Ladies singles matches will start from Thursday.
